| Metal Jewelry Content Vermeil (pronounced vehr-MAY), is a combination of sterling silver, gold, and other precious metals. It is commonly used as a component in jewelry. A typical example is sterling silver coated with 14-carat gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must also be at least 10-carat and be at least 1.5 micrometers thick. Sterling silver covered with another metal cannot be called vermeil.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. Fine Silver is 99% silver and contains no alloys. Most items are handcrafted from Precious Metal Clay and then fired to form the silver. Most Gold filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold bonded to the outside of a base metal such as brass. Please take note if you have any allergies to the above metals. Twenty Pearls and Gems uses a variety of components that may include the above metal content. | ||||
